The Czech Republic has decided that it needs a catchy new name. Government sources told the F-Zone’s Prague correspondent that it was one of the few nation states without the benefit of a one word name. So the country has changed its name by deed poll and wishes to be known henceforth as Czechia. The new name is deemed more flexible and practical – being especially easy to use on posters and T-shirts!
Unsurprisingly the idea has its critics. Some say that the name is easily confused with Chechnya, which clearly it is, whilst others suggest that the name historically only relates to Bohemia and not the whole country. The F-Zone can’t help wondering if the time to come up with a catchy name might have been and gone.
